The TAB Werribee Cup is back to kick off the racing season in Wyndham and it’s set to be bigger than ever.
Taking place on Sunday, December 4, the event is shaping up to be a fantastic day for the community to come together and witness all the effervescent excitement that country racing has to offer.
With something for everyone on the day, Werribee Racing Club, General Manager Adam Wilkinson says it’s one of the biggest sporting events to take place in Wyndham and a fantastic place for the community to come together right before Christmas.
“It’s a great day for families and it’s really important for the community, a lot of businesses are able to leverage off the Werribee Cup, and a lot of restaurants are already booked out Sunday night,” Mr Wilkinson said.
With hooves to the ground for the main event, race 7 the TAB Werribee Cup, at 4.55pm the gates open at 11.30am and the remainder of the day has that vibrant country racing spirit that race goers know and love.
With most packages sold out, only general admission tickets will be available on the day and organisers suggest pre-purchasing tickets for $25 online.
There’s live music across the course, open bars and food trucks, organisers have catered to all age groups there’s even something for the kids, including face painting, a mobile jungle gym, horse racing games and so much more.
Described by the Werribee Racing Club event manager Karen Chatterton as similar energy to a giant beer garden, she said, “It’s about community spirit, everyone comes together for a great day out.”
Steeped in tradition, Werribee district racing commenced in the 1850s.
“Over the years there’s been horses that have won the Werribee Cup that have then gone on to win the Melbourne Cup,” Mr Wilkinson said.
“Then there’ll be a winner this year that could have the potential to do the same.”
