EPA fines construction company after Tarneit incident

The Environment Protection Authority Victoria has fined a construction company $7929 for discharging sediment-laden water into a conservation zone near Davis Creek in Tarneit.

Campbellfield-based Winslow Constructors was fined after discharging the water into an area which is home to the endangered growling grass frog.

EPA metro manager Emma Roper said a community member’s report to the EPA pollution hotline sparked a joint investigation between the authority and Wyndham council, at the Tarneit construction site.

Ms Roper said after EPA and council offers attended the Tarneit construction site they discovered a pump discharging sediment-laden water.

She said that sediment-laden water had the potential to pollute local waterways and damage fish and vegetation.

Winslow Constructors have the right to have the EPA’s decision to issue the infringement reviewed or have the matter heard by a court.
