The Little River branch of the Country Fire Authority is now fitted with security alarms after its third break-in in 18 months.
Little River CFA captain Terry Hedt said the station was broken into on the night of February 22, with offenders cutting through metal fencing and kicking through a rear door to gain access.
Mr Hedt said the offenders ripped a TV off the wall in the kitchen, and stole a defibrillator, phone, torches, tools and other equipment.
“It was all stuff they could easily get rid of,” he said. “It’s pretty disappointing.”
The stolen items were all covered by insurance, but Mr Hedt said the CFA had since installed an alarm system as a safety precaution.
Senior Sergeant Matt Noy, of the Wyndham crime investigation unit, said police believed different offenders were behind each break-in.
“Unfortunately, there was no alarm system, which obviously makes it a lot more vulnerable,” Senior Sergeant Noy said. “As far as burglaries are concerned, a lot of thieves go for places –
including homes – without an alarm,” he said. “All you really need is a couple of sensors and one of those loud alarm system boxes out the front, which in itself is a deterrent to offenders.
“[Thieves] don’t want to be seen and they don’t want to be heard, and a lot of the places that get broken into are places without this sort of security.”
Investigations into the Little River break-ins are ongoing.
