Wyndham’s emergency services heroes have been thanked for their unwavering commitment to the community.
Wyndham council last week honoured about 150 police, paramedics, firefighters, coast guard officers and State Emergency Service volunteers at its annual emergency services dinner, held this year at Encore Events Centre.
Werribee Fire Brigade captain Michael Wells, Werribee police Inspector Marty Allison and Victorian Emergency Management Commissioner Andrew Crisp were among the attendees.
Safer communities portfolio holder Kim McAliney said there had been about 36,000 calls to triple-0 for fire, ambulance and police assistance across Wyndham in the past six months.
She said that as Wyndham was one of the fastest growing areas in Australia, the challenges of servicing it were immense.
“The job of protecting people from natural and man-made incidents is one that takes an incredible amount of dedication,” Cr McAliney said.
“The people that respond to these calls are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters who sacrifice time with their families and loved ones to ensure that we can make it home to ours.
“The fact that they risk their own lives and dedicate so much of their time and energy to keep us all safe is truly amazing and deserves to be recognised.
“Many are volunteers that need to get up and go to work every day after serving their community, which shows incredible dedication.”
