Election results released

It looks as if four nominees who served on Wyndham council during the last term have been returned to office, according to the Victorian Electoral Commission.

The VEC has today released the likely results of the 2020 council elections, which were conducted across the state via postal vote last month.

The election results have been revealed on the VEC’s website, but have not been officially confirmed yet – this will happen later this afternoon, with the official declaration of results.

According to the VEC, it looks as if Josh Gilligan has been re-elected in the Chaffey ward.

On his Facebook page, Mr Gilligan posted:

“I am so very grateful to the 9,481 voters who put me first at this election – the biggest number of votes cast for a single candidate in Chaffey Ward in Wyndham’s history.

“Thank you Mount Cottrell, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit and Werribee!”

Also in the Chaffey ward, the three new councillors will most likely be Jennie Barrera, Marcel Mahfoud and Robert Szatkowski.

Mr Mahfoud has previously served on the council.

In the Iramoo ward, Peter Maynard, Mia Shaw and Heather Marcus appear to have been re-elected.

Ms Shaw also posted on her Facebook, writing: “I’m back in! Thank you for your support. I finished first in the ward with primary votes – 5670 – but still needed preferences to get me over the line.

“Congratulations to Peter and Heather on their re-election.”

Mr Maynard posted a comment which included: “Yipppppeeeeeeeeeeee.”

In the Harrison ward, Susan McIntyre, Sahana Ramesh, Jasmine Hill and former mayor Adele Hegedich will most likely serve as new councillors.

Wyndham’s new councillors will swear an Oath of Office at a meeting on November 23, when the mayor and deputy mayor for 2020-21 will be elected as well.
