Wyndham’s Eagle Stadium has delivered more than 122,000 COVID-19 vaccinations since opening last August.
The hub was opened by Wyndham council and Western Health, and is ranked among the top 25 vaccination centres in the state for the number of vaccinations administered, according to the Department of Health.
Despite the pleasing numbers, Western Health nursing and midwifery executive director Shane Crowe reiterated the importance of keeping on top of vaccination requirements.
“It has been great to see so many people coming along to our Wyndham Eagle Stadium Vaccination Hub as vaccination is the best and most effective way of ensuring we can safely live with COVID into the future,” he said.
“It is highly recommended that everyone receives their third dose once they become eligible, as it has been demonstrated to strengthen the person’s immune response and increase the protection provided by the vaccine.”
As of March 13, 58 per cent of the eligible population of Wyndham had received their third dose.
The defence produced by vaccinations can wane, and a booster shot can help the immune system fight off the virus.
“Unfortunately there may be new variants in the future, like the BA.2 sub-variant of Omicron, and ensuring your vaccination is up to date is the best way of keeping safe,” Professor Crowe said.
“We also encourage parents to bring their 5-11 year olds for their first or second vaccines.
“Vaccinating our children helps protect them from getting sick from COVID-19 and reduces the spread of the virus.”
A spokesperson for Wyndham council said vaccines are our way out of the pandemic.
“We’re pleased to see so many members of our community doing their bit and coming forward to get vaccinated,” the spokesperson said.
“Those who are yet to receive their third dose, there are a range of locations across Wyndham to book in – including Eagle Stadium, Dianella Community Centre in Tarneit, or your local pharmacist or GP.”
