Work has begun on a revamp of the Duncans Road interchange, but drivers will have to wait three years before the project is fully complete.

The existing bridge over the Princes Freeway will be replaced with another bridge that will provide two lanes in each direction.

New freeway entry and exit ramps will be constructed as part of the upgrade, adding an exit to Werribee for Melbourne-bound traffic and a freeway entry for Geelong-bound traffic.

New traffic lights will be added to the freeway ramps and the K Road intersection to improve safety and traffic flow, and a new walking and cycling path will be built over the freeway, to give pedestrians and cyclists travelling between Werribee and K Road a safer route.

Drivers have been advised to expect some delays and to add a bit of extra time when travelling through the interchange as works are carried out. The work is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

The works are part of the government’s $1.8 billion Western Roads package, which will duplicate and widen seven of Wyndham’s busiest roads.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said more than 11,000 vehicles used the Duncans Road interchange every day.

“We’re completing the Duncans Road interchange to make it safer and easier for locals and to improve access to popular tourist attractions,” he said.
