Drugs, cash seized, and potential links to death probed

Detectives from the Clandestine Laboratory Squad seized drugs and cash following while executing warrants in areas including Truganina and Point Cook, as part of investigations in an alleged Malaysian drug manufacturing syndicate.

The warrants were executed on Tuesday at residential, commercial and rural properties, also located in Balwyn, Mont Albert, Kerang, Bannerton and Robinvale, as part of the five-month investigation.

Warrants were executed in Hobart by Tasmania Police, as well.

Six men have been arrested and charged in Victoria, including a 35-year-old Point Cook man who has been charged with trafficking a large commercial quantity of a drug of dependence.

All of the men, except one from Bannerton, men have been remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on November 4.

In total, 19 people have been arrested during the course of the investigation.

During Tuesday’s warrants, police seized three tonnes of chemicals believed to be pre-cursor chemicals for the manufacture of drugs.

Seven luxury cars were also seized.

During previous investigations, police seized 57kg of methylamphetamine as well as a significant quantity of cash.

Three large-scale clandestine laboratories have also been dismantled.

Homicide Squad detectives are also looking at possible links to the alleged drug syndicate as part of the ongoing investigation into the death of Point Cook man Shu Jian Lim, whose body was located at Cobbledicks Ford Reserve in Mount Cottrell on September 17, 2015.
