Work on the first part of a $1.8 billion Western Roads package has started.
Night drilling to locate utilities and assess ground conditions began last week as part of the new Duncans Road and Princes Freeway interchange, which will include two new bridges over the Princes Freeway and additional entry and exit ramps.
There will also be a new traffic light intersection at Duncans and K roads and a shared cycling and pedestrian path.
The night work will take place on weekdays from 8pm to 6am until early April.
The Duncans Road and Princes Freeway interchange is one of seven Wyndham road upgrades that will be completed between now and the end of 2021.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas said the work would be staged, with every possible step being taken to minimise the amount of noise and light affecting nearby properties.
“The Duncans Road interchange will include new freeway entry and exit ramps to and from Geelong, delivering better access to Werribee and reducing reliance on the nearby Cottrell Street railway crossing,” he said.
“[These works will reduce] congestion, providing more reliable travel times and giving people better access to jobs, shops, schools and freight hubs.”
