Pacific Werribee has donated supplies to the Salvation Army Wyndham City Doorways Pantry.
Pacific Werribee’s donation will support the creation of pre-packed food and essentials parcels which contain staple items including pasta, cereal, canned veggies, children’s books, toiletries and household items.
The parcels are given to residents in need, such as people without a home, low-income earners, asylum seekers and those who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 pandemic and are finding it hard get by.
Pacific Werribee centre manager, Patricia Gardiner, said the centre was proud to help the Wyndham community through its long-time partner, The Salvation Army.
“We deeply value the well-being of the members in our community, especially during the current health crisis,” Ms Gardiner said.
Wyndham City Doorways team leader, Jane Kerbage, said the organisation provided supported for up to 20 people per day.
“Clients are assessed over the phone and then asked to come in to receive a food parcel and/or some Coles and Woolworths vouchers for food, on a non-contact basis,” she said.
“We also offer referral services and can assist with utility bills when assessed.
“All clients who access our site are offered a food parcel as a basic need, as we do not want anyone to leave without some sort of assistance.
“We have started providing toys to families with young children as an extra support to families with kids at home.
“This has been great as an added support for struggling families and gives mums a little breather and break from the kids.”
