A woman is in a stable condition after being bitten by a dog while walking in Hoppers Crossing yesterday.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said paramedics treated a woman, believed to be aged in her 20s, for a hand injury about 5.30pm.
The woman was taken to Werribee Mercy Hospital in a stable condition.
A witness told Star Weekly that the woman was walking down Sycamore Street when a large dog broke through a fence and “mauled” her.
“Neighbours from nearby streets heard the screams and came running to assist,” the witness said.
He said that shortly after the attack, a car arrived at the house where the dog had come from. Someone put the dog into the car and drove away.
Wyndham council’s manager of corporate affairs, Emily Keogh, said the incident was being investigated.
“A current priority for council is understanding where the offending animal is located as the overriding concern is ensuring public safety,” she said.
“Wyndham City Council treats dog attacks extremely seriously and has a strong track record in managing these difficult situations.”
