Devy is in harmony

Young Point Cook singer and song-writer Devy has been named among six finalists of the St Kilda Music Festival’s New Music Competition, out of more than 350 emerging acts that entered.

The finalist who receives the most online votes from members of the public will be named the winner and will be invited to perform on the festival’s main stage in 2023.

The winner will also receive $5000.

If Devy wins, she is planning to donate the prize money to Support Act, a charity that helps struggling Australian musicians and performing artists.

Devy said she wanted to help creatives struggling with the loss of jobs and income due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In order to qualify for the New Music Competition, Devy had to be able to perform 30 minutes of original music.

Once she was chosen as a finalist, Devy attended Memo Hall in St Kilda, where she was filmed singing seven songs she has written.

“It was so cool, it was so professional but it was such a friendly environment,” she said.

However, appearing at high-profile venues is not something new for Devy.

During 2020, she performed alongside singer Kate Miller-Heidke during the Eurovision – Australia Decides concert, which was broadcast on SBS.

Devy said she hoped people in the western suburbs would vote for her in the St Kilda Music Festival’s New Music Competition.

“If the Wyndham community could support me, it would mean everything to me, it would really change my life,” she said.

Voting will close at midnight on Sunday, February 20.
