The Point Cook Fire Brigade has been presented with a donated defibrillator.
Representatives from the Country Women’s Association, Point Cook last week handed the defibrillator over to the fire brigade.
Firefighter Graeme Prentice said that the CWA, Point Cook had approached the brigade, with the offer of a donation, following summer’s fire season and devastating bushfires across the nation.
Mr Prentice said that a defibrillator was suggested as a possible donation.
“This was a fantastic offer, as during the fires a firefighter suffered a heart condition and was saved by the efforts of other firefighters using a defibrillator carried on one of the tankers,” he said.
Mr Prentice said that most of the brigade’s firefighters had been trained in the use of defibrillators as part of their first aid training, and that this would be extended to all brigade members.
“With the addition of this new equipment anyone on the fire ground needing resuscitation will be better supported, while waiting for ambulance attendance,” he said.
The Country Women’s Association, Point Cook – which is also known as the CWA Point Cook Evening Branch – was forced to cancel some of its fundraising markets and efforts due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the CWA members raised funds for the defibrillator by holding a pop-up show selling homemade scones, jams and relished last month.
The CWA took pre-orders for its scones, jams and relishes, with customers able to pick them up or arrange for contactless delivery.
