Dancing to the max

It’s time to dust off your tutu, polish your dance shoes and boogie.

Dancemax Studios in Hoppers Crossing is preparing to celebrate its 15th anniversary.

The studio began in July 2002, when 21-year-old Hayley Armstrong decided to start her own dance school.

Her first ever dance class consisted of four pupils. These days, the studio has more than 220 children and adults enrolled in its classes.

Apart from growing student numbers, Dancemax has had many changes across the years.

Ms Armstrong sold the business in 2015, to Elly Abela and Gabbie Grozdanovski.

Ms Grozdanovski said the studio still strived to provide a fun and friendly environment for children to learn dancing.

“For us, it’s not about pushing the kids to their limits,” she said. “It’s about working with them on their capabilities and strengths in an enjoyable environment.”

Ms Abela said it was a “massive achievement” for the dance studio to reach its 15th anniversary.

The studio will host a mid-year concert and anniversary celebration at the Pullman Hotel in Albert Park on July 1 at 6pm, with all present and former students invited.

Tickets: $85 for adults, $50 for children aged 10 and under.
