Could Point Cook have the best playground in Australia?
Saltwater Coast Crocodile Park is in the running for an Australia’s Best Playground award in a competition run by the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects.
The park, which was officially opened last October as part of a $5.5 million wetlands upgrade at the Saltwater Coast development in Point Cook, includes a variety of custom-designed forts, sand buckets, pulleys, bells, rope bridges and swings.
The playground’s centrepiece is a 50-metre-long water course that weaves through the play space, with water springing from the mouth of a bronze plate and stainless-steel crocodile.

The Enormous Crocodile in which a crocodile lives in a playground pretending to be a friendly seesaw before gobbling children for dinner.
The playground is one of 45 around the nation nominated for the award, with the winner to be decided by public vote and a judging panel and announced on May 24.
Colin Greaves, of Aveo, the developers of Saltwater Coast, said the playground was designed to be both fun and functional.
“For Saltwater Coast and the community, it’s great,” Mr Greaves said.
“[The nomination] is a tick of approval.”
