Creators receive funding

Two Werribee residents have been announced as recipients of the state government’s Creators Fund.

Fatima Measham received $45,305 to support her research into human interventions in nature to develop intertextual modes of storytelling.

John McCormick a $38,500 grant to his ‘Moving with Robots’ investigation, which seeks to creatively engage with robots and researches movement as a method for collaboration.

“We’re so proud of the creative talent in Werribee and through this program we are backing them to be ambitious and pursue new, potentially career-defining ideas,” Werribee MP Tim Pallas said.

“The Creators Fund enables local creatives to innovate, take their career to the next level, and make an even stronger contribution to our creative industries and cultural life – here in Werribee and beyond.”

The pair are among 70 creatives to receive a share of almost $2.7 million.

The Creators Fund provides creatives with a stable income of up to $50,000 for up to six months, which provides the time and funds required for the innovation to explore ground-breaking new research, methods and works and enables them to hone their craft.

Since the Creators Fund was launched in 2017, almost $6 million has been allocated to help fund the careers of creatives in the state.
