Victoria’s mobile crane operators have received easier access to essential information and processes with the release of an Australian first industry guide.
Ports and Freight Minister Melissa Horne announced the new Crane Industry Guide which is available online for the crane operation sector.
Ms Horne said the guide will be a huge benefit to current and future crane operators across Victoria.
“We’re supporting our heavy vehicle industry and giving our mobile crane operators better access to key information and processes they require through the release of this Australian first Crane Industry Guide,” she said.
Including information on crane importation, registration, legislation, regulation and road network access, the guide has been designed for current and future mobile crane operators as a single, valuable reference point for the industry.
The guide has been developed in collaboration with the Crane Industry Council of Australia, VicRoads, the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator and Freight Victoria.
Mobile cranes are essential for shifting, lifting and placing long and large components such as steel and concrete beams in many projects across the state including bridge construction and level crossing removals.
They also play a key role in the construction and maintenance of wind farms.
The guide complements information and processes accessed through the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator to enable the importation and registration of a crane and associated certificates required.
