COVID fragments found in wastewater in western suburbs

Residents in Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit, Truganina and Werribee are being urged to be on high alert after viral fragments of COVID-19 were detected in wastewater in the area.

The Department of Health is urging anyone who lives in or has visited the suburbs with virus symptoms, however mild, to get tested.

Victoria’s chief health officer Brett Sutton said the positive wastewater samples could be due to a positive case being in the early active infectious phase, or someone continuing to shed the virus after the early infectious period.
