The number of coronavirus cases diagnosed in Wyndham residents has reached 59, with one active case in the area, as of Monday.
In comparison, on Sunday, there were 57 cases of the virus recorded among Wyndham residents, including one active case.
According to the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), more than 1845 Victorians have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Among the weekend’s new cases was an employee at Grill’d Highpoint. The case was detected during routine testing.
“The employee worked one day while infectious last week and is now isolating,” the DHHS said in a statement.
“Contact tracing is underway, and the food outlet will undergo a deep clean.”
On Monday, the Victoria’s Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton said more than 120 new cases of the virus had been detected within the past seven days.
“The main cause for this increase has been through cases in families – where people have not followed our advice around physical distancing, hygiene and limiting the number of people you invite into your home,” Mr Sutton said.
“As a consequence, the Victorian Government has announced a tightening of the rules and has reduced the number of visitors you can have in your home to five.
“Outside of the home, people can now gather in groups of up to 10 only.”
Mr Sutton that if people could work from home keep working from home, they must do so.
The state government has also announced it will extend Victoria’s state of emergency to July 12.
