Wyndham council has not yet set a new date for its mayoral election after the majority of its councillors successfully applied for leave when the vote was due to occur.
Wyndham council corporate affairs manager Emily Keogh said a report would be tabled at an upcoming meeting to determine a new date for the mayoral election, which was originally scheduled for November 21.
As reported by Star Weekly, Wyndham council no longer has a quorum for this year’s mayoral election, with six councillors on leave for that week.
Councillors Tony Hooper (state election candidate), Walter Villagonzalo (state election candidate), Aaron An (state election candidate), Josh Gilligan (campaigning for Labor party), Heather Marcus (knee operation) and Intaj Khan (travelling overseas) will all be on leave and unable to vote come November 21, forcing a change of date.
Ms Keogh said no other council meetings or events would be impacted by the councillors’ leave.
She said it’s the first time in memory the majority of councillors were on leave at the same time.
“We don’t have records indicating that a majority of councillors have been on a leave of absence at the same time before,” she said.
