Wyndham council has resumed locking the carpark gates of the Yerambooee Community Centre, after receiving a complaint about antisocial behaviour at the Hoppers Crossing site.
Council’s city life director Jenny McMahon, said the gates of the centre’s carpark had been locked each night until recently.
She said that after receiving a complaint about anti-social behaviour from a concerned resident, the council had taken action.
“In light of the concerns raised, council has resumed locking the gates … security patrols of the area have never stopped and will continue to be provided,” Ms McMahon said.
“Council is always concerned to hear of situations where residents have reported feeling unsafe and we take these reports very seriously.
“Council is committed to working with the community to improve public safety and in this instance we believe the best outcome has been achieved.
“We will continue to monitor the situation at Yerambooee Community Centre to ensure the issues that have been raised are resolved as quickly and comprehensively as possible.”
Star Weekly understands the antisocial behaviour included youths accessing the Maple Street centre during the evening to climb onto its roof, have parties and litter the playground with condoms.
The centre, which includes a kindergarten, is in Kiah Reserve.
