Wyndham council is seeking opinions and advice from residents in relation to the Wyndham plan.
The plan focuses on six ‘Big Ideas’, to create thriving neighbourhoods known as ‘pulses’.
This includes establishing a city ‘heart; attracting investment in infrastructure that connects neighbourhoods to the ‘heart’; creating a boulevard down Derrimut Road that is part of a public transport network with a jump on and off service that stops at train stations, retail and recreational centres.
The plan encourages developers to prioritise liveability and affordable housing in new residential developments.
It also supports a loop-style transport network that will link neighbourhoods and allow residents to reach the city’s major parks, waterways and attractions. Residents can provide their feedback via The Loop which will help shape the plan.
A summary of the plan posted to The Loop stated as As Wyndham grows towards a population of 500,000 people, it must transform from being a mass of individual suburbs to a cohesive urban area with a City Heart and National Employment and Innovation Cluster located at its core.
This needs to be supported by an integrated local and regional transport network that provides better access to jobs, shopping areas, community services, and open space – boosting the quality of life for people of all ages.
“The Wyndham Plan (Draft) also aims to connect neighbourhoods to the “heart” of Wyndham, which embraces Werribee Central, East Werribee Precinct and Hoppers Crossing, Williams Landing and Pacific Werribee,” Wyndham council wrote on Facebook.
“You can now register to attend a community engagement session in February to learn more about how the Wyndham Plan that aims to help make neighbourhoods thrive.”
The next session will be held at Encore Events Centre on Saturday, February 18, from 9.30-11am, followed by a session on Wednesday, February 22, between 6-7.30pm at the Wyndham Civic Centre. The online survey must be completed before 11:59pm on Friday, March 3.
