Wyndham families will soon have better access to free parenting support services after Wyndham council and Drummond Street Services announced a new partnership to assist struggling parents or guardians.
Drummond Street Services is an organisation offering a wide range of services to help people facing personal challenges related to living situations, health, identity, relationships and community.
Wyndham council’s healthy city portfolio holder councillor Adele Hegedich, said the partnership is a wonderful opportunity for parents or carers to access information, most from the comfort of their home, to help them handle stressful parenting situations.
“Due to the pandemic and staff shortages, we have seen the availability of our Maternal Child Health (MCH) program reduce. In turn this has had a huge impact on parents with cancellations of MCH appointments for older children and missing that opportunity to get help and advice when it comes to parenting,” Cr Hegedich said.
Cr Hegedich said providing free parenting programs like this ensures that the families of Wyndham continue to receive the support they need while raising their children.
“Run by experienced facilitators with years of expertise in helping manage the ups and downs of raising children, the courses will allow parents or carers to meet and hear from others going through similar experiences,” she said.
Five different parenting courses are available and focus on assisting an array of parenting experiences.
The courses available include a 50 minute stress management for mums Group a 45 minute online working parents with toddlers seminar, a 90 minute online managing challenging behaviours/parenting feisty kids session, a face to face family foundations program and a 90 minute online parenting kids who worry seminar.
A full list of services is available on the Wyndham council website and bookings can be made via Drummond Street.
