Wyndham council will take over the running of Encore Events Centre as part of a plan to boost community use of the multi-million dollar facility.

City life director Jenny McMahon said the council would manage and operate the Derrimut Road events centre from July 1, taking the reins from Venue Management Services, who has looked after the site since it opened in 2015.

“Council has made the decision to manage the venue ourselves as it will help us achieve our goal of increasing the community’s access and usage of this great asset,” Ms McMahon said.

“Managing other local venues like the Wyndham Cultural Centre also means we are better positioned to meet the needs of the community. By managing the Encore Events Centre, council will be able to provide more spaces that the community can hire and hold a wider range of activities, including arts and cultural events.

“Some of the changes we plan to introduce will include offering menus that showcase local produce and beverages, as well as employing more local staff.”

The Encore Events Centre was opened in 2015 as part of a $54 million redevelopment of the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre. From June 30, people wanting to hire a space at Encore Events Centre will contact Wyndham council directly at encore@wyndham.vic.gov.au
