Three intersections in the municipality now have working traffic lights, Wyndham council has announced.
The $2.4 million Traffic Signals Project is almost at completion with the activation of traffic lights at the Greens Road and Haines Drive intersection in Wyndham Vale, the Dunnings Road and Lennon Boulevard intersection, and Miles Franklin Boulevard and Boardwalk Boulevard intersection in Point Cook.
Council said public lighting at the Greens Road and Haines Drive intersection and the Miles Franklin Boulevard and Boardwalk Boulevard intersection were awaiting activation by Powercor and the Department of Transport, and is anticipated in coming weeks.
Wyndham council’s City Design portfolio holder councillor Josh Gilligan said the traffic lights would make travelling safer for the drivers and pedestrians using the intersections.
“As our population grows, improving safety and traffic movement is one of the most important issues facing our community,” Cr Gilligan said.
“This important project enhances safety for all road users at these busy intersections, especially schoolchildren crossing the road to get to one of the nearby schools.
“The traffic lights will also reduce traffic congestion during peak times, helping drivers and pedestrians get to their destination sooner.”
The project forms part of a $32.3 million upgrade and maintenance of Wyndham’s road network over 2022/23.
