They’re all smiles now, but these Wyndham police officers will be flexing their muscles, raising their heart rates and working hard later this week to help people living in poverty.
They’re among 44 officers from the Westgate division – which covers Wyndham, Maribyrnong and Hobsons Bay – who will be working to conquer the Oxfam Trailwalker fundraiser.
In teams of four, they’ll walk 100 kilometres in less than 48 hours.
The trail kicks off this Friday on the outskirts of Melbourne’s CBD and will wind its way through the Dandenong Ranges and Yarra Valley National Parks, before finishing in the Warburton Valley. The annual event is held in 11 countries, with money raised going towards Oxfam’s efforts to fight poverty and injustice.
Sergeant Kylie Power, who is part of team Gunna Get There, said police officers had been taking part in arduous training sessions around the You Yangs and Geelong to be game-ready for the event. She said the 11 Westgate teams had so far raised more than $16,000, including a $3000 donation from Avalon Airport.
