A table lined with delicious delicacies showcasing foods from around the world was the feature of a luncheon dedicated to the launch of a community cookbook.
The Wyndham Women Support Group is a non-profit group who have been operating in the municipality for close to eight years, they recently released their first recipe book, Kitchen Connections.
Founder Tania Kelaart said the main objective of the group is to provide a safe space for women from diverse backgrounds, to give them a place to connect
“Food always bring us together, so we decided to run a kitchen program…and we started with that,” she said.
“We were inspired to then put together all our recipes…the cookbook is basically sharing a lot of our culture, what brings us together.
“We have made so many connections over food and sharing recipes and cultures, we decided to call it Kitchen Connections for that reason.
“We have Indian, Sri Lankan, African, Filipino, South African [and] Italian recipes, and more.”
Kitchen Connections can be ordered for $10 through the group’s Facebook page, the Manor Lakes Community Centre on Tuesdays, or the Quantin Binnah Community Centre on Thursdays.
Ms Kelaart said the group then hopes to use the funds acquired to create the next edition.
“We’re looking to keep going with this, but add more and more recipes from diverse communities [and] women in Wyndham,” she said.
