The old Target store at Hoppers Crossing shopping centre has undergone an $18 million transformation to make way for a new Coles supermarket and 20 specialty retail stores.
Revamping the shopping centre, at the corner of Old Geelong and Morris roads, caused Target, the anchor tenant, to close down in August last year to make way for a new-look Target store at Pacific Werribee.
Pacific Group of Companies development manager Lindsey Wright said the Hoppers Crossing centre would be complete and open for business on August 24.
He said the focus for the shopping centre was different to that of Pacific Werribee, with an aim to be a local, service and convenient fresh food shopping destination.
“There isn’t a lot like this until you go down further to Tarneit and other newly developed areas,” Mr Wright said.
“We’re filling a gap in the market. Up the road [Werribee] we have the fashion capital of the west, but here it’s more about convenience.”
New retailers include Tobacco Station, Sushi Sushi, an Indian grocery, a restaurant specialising in four different Asian cuisines, Fergusson Plarre, and a Vietnamese bakery.
Existing retailers Baker’s Delight and Target Lotto will move to the new section, while Woolworths and other retailers will remain as they are.
The new centre’s opening will come just weeks after completion of Pacific Group’s $400 million redevelopment of Pacific Werribee.
The new centre includes Myer, Uniqlo and many more.
