Deborah Dickinson has been announced as the new chair of the Werribee Business & Tourism Association (WBTA).

Ms Dickinson is a life coach who runs the Werribee-based business Deborah Dickinson Coaching.

She is also on the board of Kulture Hive, a not-for-profit Williams Landing organisation that offers social cohesion programs and job training.

Ms Dickinson said that during the next 12 months, the WBTA wanted to connect with new businesses moving into Werribee, as well as re-connect with existing businesses.

“It’s definitely about the connections and just meeting so many people directly within the community and about being the WBTA, finding out what it is we can do to help our members,” she said.

Ms Dickinson said the WBTA was also supporting members post-lockdown, with the COVID-safe measures required for health and safety.

In addition, the WBTA has applied for grants to implement initiatives to attract more people to the Werribee town centre.

“Part of our purpose is to bring people to our main streets, not just from within the community but from outside our community,” Ms Dickinson said.

“Werribee is very much changing and we need to be screaming from the rooftops about how great the changes are.”

The WBTA is running a Go Local Win Local Campaign until December 19 to encourage residents to support Werribee traders.

Local businesses have donated more than $3000 worth of prizes to the campaign.

Community members who spend $20 at a participating business can scan a barcode or provide their details to go in the running for a prize.
