Concert to make a difference

A visit to the Philippines has inspired a Wyndham Vale family to embark on a fundraising mission.

In December, Paul Palis, his wife and their four children travelled to Zamboanga City, in the mountainous region of Guisao.

Mr Palis said while they were in the area, his 11-year-old daughter Daphne played her violin at a school for poor children, run by the Brotherhood Community Church.

While at the school, he and his family were surprised to see students drawing and writing on the floor.

After coming back to Australia, Mr Palis said his family was keen to help the school build a classroom and buy tables, chairs and stationery.

“Suddenly, my 11-year-old daughter came up with this idea,” Mr Palis said.

“She said, ‘Dad, can I play my violin and ask people to donate?’”

A benefit concert featuring young musicians from Wyndham will include Daphne playing her violin and her 10-year-old sister Angela playing the piano. Mr Palis said they hoped the concert would raise up to $2000.

The event will be on May 27 from 2-4pm at the Wyndham Vale Christian Centre , 418-438 Ballan Road, Wyndham Vale.

Tickets: adult $20, student $10, primary student $5, available at the door or book by calling Mr Palis on 0430 337 511.
