The new railway stations at Wyndham Vale and Tarneit are a huge hit with commuters.

Public Transport Victoria’s most recent figures show almost 8000 passengers caught trains to or from Wyndham Vale each week in July, the first month of operation, while 12,000 departed from or arrived at Tarneit.

The combined figures represented a 16 per cent increase in passengers using the same Geelong-Melbourne line.

The two new stations were built as part of the state government’s Regional Rail Link project.

The soaring custom on the Regional Rail Link, has resulted a slight decrease on the Werribee metro line.

In May 2015, 36,694 people boarded from stations along the corridor. That has since dropped to 32,676 following the opening of the two new stations.

Figures also show the new Wyndham bus network is extremely popular, with more than 14,500 passengers using the service every week.

This is a 25 per cent increase on last year’s figures.

The new bus network connects to Wyndham Vale and Tarneit stations and provides more frequent services across Wyndham.

Werribee MP Tim Pallas said the new bus and rail services were used by more than 90,000 people in the first full month of operation.

“Wyndham is one of Australia’s fastest-growing areas, which is why the Regional Rail Link and the new bus network are so vital,” he said.
