A $3.75 million redevelopment of The Grange Community Centre and two adjoining sports fields has been unveiled by Wyndham council.

The project included an upgrade of the existing community centre plus the addition of three new community rooms, a lounge space, a landscaped courtyard, a playground, sheltered seating and picnic tables.

The upper windows of the centre’s façade now features artwork of birds as they migrate to Wyndham, by contemporary artist Brian Robinson.

The project also received $1 million in funding from the 2018-19 round of the state government’s Growing Suburbs Fund.

Wyndham mayor Adele Hegedich last week said the redevelopment would give the community new and improved spaces for people to meet, and to run programs and services.

Four lighting poles have also been installed at the Grange Reserve’s pitch one allowing girls and women from Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club to practice during the evenings.

Tarneit MP Sarah Connolly and western region MP Kaushaliya Vaghela MP joined Wyndham councillors and soccer club officials to launch the lights.

The lights were funded by a $300,000 Local Sports Grant from the state government.

“For too long, clubs like Hoppers Crossing Soccer Club have been hamstrung by outdated facilities – they deserve appropriate facilities they can be proud of,” Ms Connolly said.

Wyndham’s active city portfolio holder, Peter Maynard, said the council funded the business case for the pitch lighting project.
