Community grants open

Wyndham’s worthiest community causes and projects can get a leg up through another round of the Manor Lakes Community Fund grants.

Applications opened this week for the grants scheme which aims to support not-for-profit groups in putting on events or delivering projects.

Since its inception in 2003 the Manor Lakes Community Fund, an annual initiative by the Dennis Family Corporation, has distributed more than $270,000 to community groups in the Wyndham area.

Dennis Family Corporation chief executive Peter Levinge said previous recipients have included sporting, support and environmental groups, schools and emergency services.

“We recognise the important role community groups play in connecting people and fostering community spirit within our estates,” Mr Levinge said.

Iramoo Community Centre based in Wyndham Vale, a 2018 grant recipient, offers a range of courses, community programs, events and services for people of all ages and abilities.

Community development officer Joanne Griffiths said the grant enabled the centre to provide 13 additional workshops to learn new skills and run free community events.

Applications close on Tuesday, August 6.
