The Werribee River Association will host a Catch a Carp community day and fishing event at Manor Lakes Reserve.
The event on Saturday, October 8, will provide opportunities for people with little or no fishing experience to come and give it a go.
WRA said keen anglers are also encouraged to attend, as the organisation is looking at reducing the population of carp, as the fish are a noxious, introduced pest that can impact native aquatic species.
“There’s so much to discover down by the lake. And Manor Lakes is a top urban spot for carp fishing,” WRA education manager Charlotte Williamson said.
“This will be a fun opportunity to get involved with our local waterway and discover more about recreational fishing.”
Fishing expert and champion angler, Jo Starling attend the community day and will be running small-group classes, providing tuition on bait, casting, how to identify fish habitats, best fishing spots and much, much more.
Equipment, bait, advice and the recreational fishing license to participate are all included in the event and prizes will be given for biggest carp, most fish caught and junior award.
Refreshments, nature walks and live music from local Karen singer/songwriter Hsar Pweh, Pacifika songstress V!NA and DJ Joseph Asirifi, spinning Ghanaian Afro-beats can also be enjoyed by guests,
