Coach pulls up stumps

The Little River Redbacks Cricket Club is searching for a new coach.

Present coach Nic Fairchild is stepping down from the position because of work commitments.

Nic, who is father to a six-month old child, said he also wanted to devote more time to his family.

While he is planning to continue playing with the club, the coach’s position is now up for grabs.

Little River president Doug Fairchild, who is Nic’s father, said Wyndham residents were welcome to apply for the role.

“Out of three teams, probably a third of our players come from the Wyndham area,” Mr Fairchild said.

He said a few other players hailed from the wider Melbourne area, including Altona.

Mr Fairchild said he would also encourage people who have played quite a bit of cricket, or held positions at other clubs – but not necessarily coaching roles – to apply for the position.

“Past experience is great but if you don’t have any, we’re happy to have a look at everyone’s applications,” he said.

Mr Fairchild said that Nic did not have any coaching experience when he started in the role two years ago, but he has helped Little River become more successful at a competitive level.

Last year, the club’s A grade team just missed the finals – this year they finished on top of the ladder.

The coaching role is a paid position and the club also offers an incentive program for A grade players, if they make a certain number of runs or wickets.

Mr Fairchild said the club’s new coach would need to be available to attend training on Tuesday and Thursday nights, plus games on Saturdays.

To apply for the coach’s position or find out more, contact Mr Fairchild on 0418 503 040 or at dfairchild@commander.net.au.
