Two Wyndham cricket clubs have joined forces to host a special Australia Day event which will raise money for Beyond Blue.
The Point Cook Cricket Club (PCCC) and Sanctuary Lakes Cricket Club (SLCC) will hold their second annual Charity T20 Match on Tuesday, January 26.
Brothers James and Owen Doolan are among those organising the charity day. James is senior coach at SLCC after playing his last seven seasons at Point Cook, while Owen is a player and committee member at PCCC.
Last year, the two clubs held their first annual charity match, which raised $7500 for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.
Owen said the idea for the event came about after James, and the siblings’ friend Nick Mckenna, who was playing at Sanctuary Lakes, decided it would “awesome” to organise a game between the two clubs.
James said they decided to donate the proceeds from this year’s tournament to beyond Blue Beyond, as it is Australia’s most well-known mental health organisation.
“With near-on 100 senior mens’ members between the two clubs, we want to use this game to not only support the charity but to show support to any of our clubs members who are affected by anxiety, depression or suicide and show them they can always turn to their clubs if they need help,” he said.
Owen said Tuesday’s event would include a gold coin barbecue, three games of cricket and a raffle with great prizes.
“Some of the prizes are a signed Renegades top, Luna Park family passes and midweek vouchers to play a Sanctuary Lakes Golf Club,” he said.
The Charity T20 Match will be held at Saltwater Reserve. An under-13 and under-15 T15 match will be held at 11am and a T20 for seniors at 12pm.
