An $8.28 million refurbishment of Wyndham council’s civic centre will include more of an open-plan feel to help make better use of existing office space.
Wyndham council acting chief executive Stephen Thorpe said work had already begun on the fit-out and refurbishment of about 6195 square metres of office space.
“This project aims to make better use of the existing building, enabling staff to be accommodated in a more flexible work environment,” Mr Thorpe said.
“By maximising use of the available space, we will be able to avoid the cost of a new building or major extension works as council keeps up with the population growth occurring in Wyndham.
“This project will see a change from providing staff with offices and allocated desks to an open office that provides for increased building capacity for the future.”
The refurbishment does not include any carparking changes or upgrades, despite council staff parking in nearby residential streets, service lanes and on the side of the Princes Highway due to a lack of on-site spaces.
Mr Thorpe said residents would face no changes to service delivery during the construction period.
The work is expected to be completed by late September next year.
