The Truganina Fire Brigade and Santa have teamed up to conduct a Christmas Eve lolly drop for children living in Tarneit and Truganina.
Santa and his helpers from the brigade will visit several parks, for 15 minutes at a time, across the two suburbs between 3-7pm on Friday, December 24.
Firefighter Len Trawn said due to the sheer size of the suburbs, it was impossible for Santa to visit every single street, so they would visit the parks instead.
Santa will arrive at each park on an older-model firetruck, which is usually located at the Fire Services Museum Victoria.
Families are being encouraged to bring a bag for Santa to put the lollies for each child into.
“It’s a great, feel-good thing for us to do,” Mr Trawn said.
“The best thing is just the smiles on the kids’ faces.”
He said that the Hoppers Crossing Fire Brigade, from which he transferred to Truganina, also previously held Christmas Eve lolly drops.
Mr Trawn said that before the area grew so large, the brigade would visit every street to distribute lollies.
“It was extremely well received,” he said.
“People in the newer areas of Truganina would say, ‘No-one ever comes here, thanks for thinking of us’.”
The lolly drop will begin 3-3.15pm at the park on Monument Drive and Eventide Avenue in Tarneit, and finish from 6.45-7pm at the Morris Road and Dominion Terrace park in Truganina.
If the brigade is called to a fire during the event, Santa and the lollies will continue visiting the parks in a private vehicle.
