It’s not every day you get your hair cut off in the middle of Werribee’s main street with a group of people cheering you on.

But that’s exactly what happened to Sammy Fullwood on Saturday when she chopped off her once-long locks in the name of charity.

The 30-year-old Tarneit resident had her close shave outside Chatterbox Cafe, raising about $10,000 for the Cancer Council.

Ms Fullwood, who has worked as a conveyancer at Callea Pearce Lawyers’ Werribee branch for five years, braved the shave in honour of her late boss, Domenic Callea, who died from cancer last year.

Chatterbox owner Salim El-Hassan kicked off proceedings by cutting off Ms Fullwood’s ponytail before grabbing a razor to finish the job.

Ms Fullwood’s two-year-old son, Jordan, jumped on his mother’s lap towards the end.

Feeling her newly shorn head, Ms Fullwood said: “It’s very short, isn’t it? It actually takes a lot longer than I thought it would to shave it off. It feels very different.

“It’s pretty overwhelming … but it’s awesome.”

Domenic’s son, James Anthony, who watched Ms Fullwood’s shave, praised her fundraising efforts and said it was ironic to see Ms Fullwood shave her hair when his “vain” dad never lost his own locks during cancer treatment.
