Chatty cafe aims to reconnect residents

Lorraine and Denise attended the chatty cafe on July 25.

As the effects of the pandemic continue to be explored, Iramoo Community Centre decided to start its own chatty café to encourage members of the community to reconnect.

Centre manager Renae Paul said the cafe provides community members with an opportunity to meet at a local venue and have a chat over a cup of tea.

“Over the past two years Victoria has experienced long periods of lockdown due to COVID-19 which has increased the feeling of loneliness and disconnection within the community,” she said.

“[It’s] a place where they can meet new friends and enjoy each other’s company whilst participating in a variety of games and activities.”

Ms Paul said people can expect a safe and welcoming environment when they attend the Iramoo chatty café.

“Social inclusion is important as it can improve your physical, emotional, and mental health. It can reduce the loneliness many feel in our community and provide you with a sense of belonging. Something to look forward to.”

Ms Paul said everyone is welcome to attend and the group meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month, from 10.30am-12.30pm.

The next session will be held on Monday, August 8.
