Wyndham’s CFA brigades came together for a community engagement at Pacific Werribee during the school holidays.

Over two Saturdays, volunteers spoke with members of the municipality about fire safety and hosted fun children’s activities.

Kids enjoyed ‘extinguishing’ the campfire prop with a metal bucket as well as creating badges, cardboard fire trucks and more.

Wyndham CFA said the opportunity was important to help them reach a large and varied audience.

“There is no doubt of the value of events like this that allow us to teach and inform members of our community, knowing that the education provided will prevent injuries and save lives,” CFA presenter Michael Vermeulen said.

“From our conversations with people, its apparent that while a lot more work has to be done to improve people’s knowledge of home fire safety, they are willing to listen and act on our advice and that willingness gives us the motivation to do more.”

Over 1000 community members were engaged over the two days and the CFA says kids went home with not only a souvenir, but information and confidence to take action for their own and others’ safety.
