CFA battles blaze at Mambourin building

Fire crews from across the west are battling a blaze at Mambourin.

Fire fighters are still not sure how the fire started at the Edgars Road building.

A CFA spokeswoman said the fire had spread to the grassland surrounding the building, but has since been successfully extinguished. The structure fire, however, is yet to be contained.

Wood and rubbish within the building is making it more difficult for crews to put the fire out, she said.

“There’s a high fuel load, the flames are quite high, which is difficult in terms of getting close to [the fire],” she said.

“There’s a lot burning.”

Eight tankers and two pumpers are currently on scene, from Wyndham Vale, Werribee, Little River, Lara, Balliang and Anakie.

There is currently no threat to the community, but smoke from the fire can be seen from as far as Werribee and Melton.
