Horse racing heavyweights are in town and dozens of race fans were trackside in Werribee last week hoping to catch a glimpse of them.
Werribee Racing Club held its Breaky at the Track event on Thursday as part of a host of functions it’s putting on in the lead-up to the spring racing season.
Next Wednesday, the public can mingle with the trainers, jockeys and Melbourne Cup contenders at the track when the club hosts the International Breakfast.
Werribee Racing Club general manager Adam Wilkinson said the breakfast was a chance for racing fans to enjoy the international horses that are in quarantine at that club until next month.
“It’s a celebration of what quarantine brings to the local community,” Mr Wilkinson said.
“The quality of the horses that are in quarantine with us at the moment is very high and this is something that we, as a club, are very excited about.
“We’ve got [the] first three placegetters in last year’s Melbourne Cup here, among others.
“We also have the Cox Plate favourite Lys Gracieux here – this is a horse that’s come all the way from Japan.
“The International Breakfast at Werribee has become a key event in the spring racing calendar and we encourage the community to come along and take it all in.”
There are 28 horses, both national and international names, in residence at the club in the lead-up to the Spring Racing Carnival.
