Three Wyndham Catholic schools were all smiles last week after receiving a combined $5.15 million injection for new and upgraded classrooms.
MacKillop College, St Andrew’s Primary School and St John the Apostle Catholic Primary School, were among 38 Catholic and private schools to share in almost $50 million to build new classrooms and update existing facilities as part of the state government’s capital funding program for non-government schools.
St Andrew’s Primary School has been given a $1.65 million grant to refurbish its library, provide new administration spaces and general learning areas and redevelop student amenities.
Principal Michael Gavaghan said the school would match the state government funding for the works, which will begin early next year and are expected to take 12 months.
Mr Gavaghan said the school, which has been around for more than 100 years and caters for about 350 students, would benefit from a facelift.
Meanwhile, MacKillop College will receive $2 million towards building 14 general learning areas and refurbishing existing classrooms; and St John the Apostle Catholic Primary School will get $1.5 million to construct the next stage of a new school site to cater for growing demand.
Werribee MP Tim Pallas said the funding would allow “more local students [to] access first-rate local school facilities and get the education they need to thrive”.
Education minister James Merlino added: “We are delivering vital funding to help build and upgrade independent and Catholic schools across Victoria so they can make a real difference in the lives of more families.”
