The Werribee River Association’s Catch-a-Carp event is on again this weekend.
After the success of the inaugural event in 2022, anglers will again be casting into Manor Lakes
Reserve this Saturday November 25 from 10am to 2pm.
Suitable for all fishing levels and ages, the day is an opportunity to get outdoors with the family, while helping to remove an invasive species from our waterways.
Carp have a detrimental effects on native aquatic plants, animals, and general river
health, mainly through their destructive feeding habits. They populate areas rapidly, with a
4–5 kg carp able to produce over 1 million eggs. It’s hoped that removing them from waterways
will increase native fish numbers and improve water quality.
Beyond the ‘feels’ of doing a good thing for local waterways, there are also great prizes to be
won, with a special junior category for younger anglers.
The event is also great opportunity for beginners to come and try fishing and
experienced anglers will be on-site to help with fishing instructions, baiting hooks and carp handling.
Rods will be available for hire and bait and tackle will be provided.
Refreshments will be provided by coffee and gelato trucks, as well as a rotary BBQ
including vegetarian and halal options. Alternatively, participants can bring their own picnic.
