Cash coup for cancer

By Dewi Sherry

It was a function to fight cancer and it turned into a cash bonanza.

More than $13,000 was raised at a Girls Night In event at the Italian Sports Club of Werribee (ISCW) earlier this month.

Girls Night In events, an initiative of Cancer Council Victoria, are designed to raise money to help in the fight against breast and gynaecological cancers.

Of the $13,000 raised at the ISCW event, $6500 will be donated to Cancer Council Victoria and $6500 will go towards the Orange Pigeon Foundation, which grants wishes to seriously ill adults.

“Words can’t express the gratitude we have for all of the ladies and a few gentlemen who attended the night,” ISCW function co-ordinator Lisa Arrigo said.

“Your donations towards raffles, silent auctions and ticket sales have contributed to this astonishing donation!

“A big thank you goes to our amazing sponsors who donated products/vouchers.”

“We look forward to a bigger and better Girls Night In fundraiser next year.”

Head of supporter experience at Cancer Council Victoria, Bernadette Kennedy, said the Girls’ Night In initiave is also an ideal opportunity to highlight the need for regular screening for breast and gynaecological cancers.

“This year we hope to raise $1.2 million in Victoria through Girls’ Night In. Any event you host will help support women affected by breast or gynaecological cancer,” she said.
