Car impounded in Tarneit

A Hoppers Crossing man has learnt about speed limits the hard way, after having his car impounded in Tarneit on Tuesday night.

Around 11.20pm, police from the Westgate Highway Patrol allegedly detected the man driving at 114km per hour along Tarneit Road, in a 40km area where roadworks are being conducted.

When police intercepted the man’s Holden Commodore, the driver allegedly stated that he thought he was in a 100km zone.

The 21-year-old Hoppers Crossing man had his car impounded for 30 days at a cost of more than $1006.

A Victoria Police spokesman said they expected the man would be charged on summons for speeding.
