A Werribee mechanic has been left gutted after finding a client’s car torched outside his business on Friday morning.
Matt Valenzuela, the owner of MJV Mechanical Services, arrived at his Concorde Drive business about 6am to find the 2001 Hyundai Accent was damaged beyond repair.
“The car came in for a roadworthy, but it’s definitely not roadworthy now,” Mr Valenzuela said.
He said his business had been operating for just over a month and he did not believe it was a targeted attack.
He says he will now have to replace the client’s car, either out of his own pocket or through insurance.
Wyndham Detective Senior Constable Jeremy O’Brien described the arson attack as “weird”.
“Usually in these situations there is a reason for it – a business has been targeted – but that doesn’t seem to be the case,” he said.
He said the car was not registered or insured.
Police are collecting CCTV footage from surrounding businesses.
Anybody with any information is being urged to contact Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit on 9742 9444.
No arrests had been made at the time Star Weekly went to print.
