Raising awareness of bowel cancer is a cause close to the heart of Hoppers Crossing woman Julie Toner.
She was diagnosed with the illness in 2012 at the age of 40, although she was not showing any symptoms at the time.
Ms Toner said Bowel Cancer Australia (BCA) had provided her with “amazing support” during her battle with the illness.
She is organising fundraising murder mystery night for BCA – it will be held next month at the Central Park Community Centre in Hoppers Crossing.
Ms Toner said attendees could dress as anything related to the theme – even as zombies.
“My main goal for this is for people to get tested and raise awareness, and also fundraise for Bowel Cancer Australia,” she said.
She said the murder mystery night would include an auction for donated items such
Footy Show and MCG Sports Museum tickets and Western Bulldogs memorabilia.
Ms Toner said she had organised an annual fundraising event for the BCA every year since 2013, raising about $45,000 for the organisation in the process.
The BCA fundraising murder mystery night will be held on Friday, July 21, from 6.30pm.
Tickets must be booked and cost $25, which covers finger food; BYO drinks.
Participants can book in as teams/tables of eight or as a solo attendees.
