A Wyndham Vale road has become the top-earning spot for the state’s mobile traffic camera system.

During the 2019-20 financial year, a mobile camera located on Black Forest Road, between Brimpton Grove and McGrath Road, issued 3740 infringements to drivers.

A mobile camera on Wetherby Road in Doncaster, between Doncaster Road and Koonung Creek, issued the second-highest amount of infringements, at 3422.

A mobile camera in Oak Street in Parkville issued 3338 infringements and a camera in Bell Street, Preston issued 3321 infringements

A camera located on Ballarat Road in Footscray, between Geelong Road and Jamieson Avenue, issued 2930 infringements.

The infringements issued by the cameras were for speeding and unregistered vehicle offences.

Victoria Police Acting Assistant Commissioner John Fitzpatrick urged drivers to take care on the road.

He said there was more traffic on the state’s roads during summer, with people travelling to the beach and holiday destinations.

“If you’re driving long distances, take regular breaks and where possible share the driving to avoid fatigue,” he said.

“If you’re having a few drinks with your mates, make sure you’ve planned how to get home without driving.

“We want people to have a good time, but do not want to be attending collision scenes where drugs or alcohol is a contributing factor.”

Acting Assistant Commissioner Fitzpatrick said that the simple act of putting on a seatbelt gave motorists the best chance of survival if they were involved in a serious collision.

“Sadly, lives could have been saved if people managed to do this simple task,” he said.

“Whether you are travelling a short distance down the road or on a long journey – always wear a seatbelt. There’s no excuse.”
